Welcome to the Orange Film Academy and Research Centre.

This 10-week short term course gives an overview on Cinema of Asian countries where a vibrant film culture exists. History of Cinema in various Asian countries, craft and film techniques, production procedures are all discussed in this course.

The major topics covered in the course are Country focus (Cinema in all Asian countries are discussed), Asian masters (SatyajithRay,RithwikGhatak,Mrinal Sen (India), Akira Kurusowa,Ozu etc.( Japan), Yang Zhimou (China), Iran- Abbas Kiarosthami etc., South Korea- Kim kiduk etc.), directors talk, film movements from Asia(festivals, markets, Asian panorama).

Experienced and reputed film critic Aruna Vasudev will introduce the course. Critic and film exponent, M.C. Rajanarayanan will be the course coordinator. Other faculty members are also well-experienced in their area of specialization. The course is given 100% Online, so that you can learn at the comfort of your home. The course material can be accessed for six months that will help you to watch the same lessons multiple times to understand the concept thoroughly. This will help self-paced and flexible kind of learning. On discussion forum, students can ask questions and work together to solve each other’s questions.

As a student, what you need is an access to a computer or mobile device with an internet connection.

The basic qualification is Senior Secondary Level or equivalent and there is no age limit. Anyone who wants to learn the secrets of cinema, anyone who has a passion to Asian cinema and cultural exchange based on cinema can do this course. New batches will start at the beginning of each month.

After the course, the student will gain the skills and theory required to analyse and appreciate Asian cinema, via screenings and discussion of a diverse and abundant range of films.Cultural exchange through cinema is a growing and relevant topic of cultural diplomacy. Journalists, researchers and filmmakers and other film-related people can develop better understanding of Asian countries through their cinema.  We hope to see you in this course!

  • Classes for 3 hours per week (1 hour each on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday).
  • Assessment will be made at the end of the course
