South Asian Film Festival of Montreal goes online; 10-day festival to begin today

Prestigious South Asian Film Festival of Montreal, popularly called as SAFFMontreal, will be staged this year as an online festival which will open its curtains on Thursday, 19 November.

The ten-day-long festival will end on November 29. This time the festival is open to worldwide audiences online. he films in this edition  are from India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Portugal, U.K, France, Canada & USA. All films are subtitled in English and in French.

Preparations are in high gear at present to bring this new online festival to fruition. There is excitement and great synergy from bringing together talented people from each city festival’s organizing committee.  South Asian Film Festival of Montreal is a festival in which films from the Indian subcontinent and its diaspora will be shown. South Asian Film Festival of Montréal (SAFFMontréal) is presented by Kabir Centre for Arts & Culture, a not-for-profit organization promoting various art forms and activities such as music, dance, cinema, literature and poetry.

“SAFFMontreal aims to offer an eclectic mix of thought-provoking films set in the Indian Sub-continent and its diaspora communities across the world, aiming to entertain, inform and empower the viewers at large. The various themes highlighted in the films are the subject of animated post-screening discussions between the viewers and distinguished panelists, which may include the director or producer of the film.The festival also aims to foster pluralism In the Canadian society through the art of cinema, in line with the vision of Kabir Centre, its parent organization,” says organizers.

South Asian Film Festival of Montréal (SAFFM), the only one of its kind in the great city of Montréal, is committed to showcasing new artistic work that fosters discussions and explores the world we inhabit. The Festival hopes to be a platform for filmmakers worldwide whose films have a focus on South Asia and its diaspora.
