Korean Consulate invites entry for Korean Cinema review writing competition

In an attempt to keep Indians engaged during lockdown and attract Indians towards Korean Cinema, The Consulate of Korea in Chennai has announced the launch of a Korean Cinema review writing competition.

The competition is meant for film buffs who are showing a keen interest in Korean cinema. Those interested are required to send in a review of any Korean flick that they might have watched and loved, either at a film festival or on OTT platforms. The review can be about 100 words, if it’s a written one. Video reviews can also be sent. As far as a movie fan is concerned, reviewing films can be a big part of film experience and can help develop their literacy skills.

The review must also include a short note on the film’s title, synopsis and name its director. It should also contain the name, email and phone number of the reviewer. These entries will be judged by a panel of jury members, and the winner will be awarded by the Consulate at a later stage. Entries for this contest must be sent to iindocine.ciff@gmail.com. The last date to submit the entry is August 15.

After the South Korean movie ‘Parasite’ won the Oscar award, the country is keen to promote its Cinema as a cultural product to foreign countries. The South Korean film from director Bong Joon Ho smashed box office records through ‘Parasite’ and won awards internationally including the Oscar. The movie — a genre-warping mix of drama, horror and dark comedy — has become the first foreign language film to win the coveted best picture at the Oscars. The movie also won Oscars for best director, best screenplay and best international feature.
