Madhu Eravankara a filmmaker, film critic, and film teacher, is a recipient of the National Film Award for the Best Book on Cinema. He has also been chosen for several State, National and International Awards for Documentaries and Writings on Cinema. He was the Media Director, Audiovisual Institute of Eritrea, Eritrea, North East Africa and Professor & Head, Dept. of Film Studies, Thunchatezhuthachan Malayalam
University, Kerala.
His book ‘Malayala Cinemayum Sahityavum’ (Film and Literature of Malayalam ) won the National Film Award with President’s Gold Medal in 1999. His documentary film ‘Nishadam’ picked for the Kerala State Film Award in 2003. He also won several other awards such as Kozhikkodan Award-2016 and MAMI Excellence Award for his book Indian Cinema 100 Years 100 Cinema.
He was the jury of several famous film festivals viz. the International Film Festivals of Mumbai, Yamagata- Japan , Brisbane- Australia, Istanbul- Turkey, Toronto- Canada , Mannheim- Heidelberg- Germany , Busan- South Korea , Abu Dhabi- UAE , Bengaluru , Taipei- Taiwan , Hyderabad , , Bengaluru ( 2018) , St. Petersburg- Russia ,Dhaka- Bengladesh.
He was also acted as the former Secretary, FIPRESCI- India ( International Film Critics Federation ). Directed more than twenty documentaries in India and abroad. He was the pioneer in filmmaking in Eritrea, North East Africa. He is a fellow of National Film Archive of India and Dept: of Culture, Govt. of India.
