Based in Thrissur, Kerala, he is an Indian film maker, film scholar and bilingual writer on film and cultural studies. Many books to his credit and a few of them are bestowed with State awards for best book on Cinema. His films have been screened and awarded at several national and international film festivals. Close friendship and associations with directors such as Pavithran, Chintha Ravi, John Abraham; film and theatre activists such as Suresh Pattali and Jose Chiramal and participation in theatre and Film appreciation courses in school of drama and Film and Television Institute of India respectively consolidated his interest in the medium of cinema.
One of his documentaries ‘Maythil’ (2010) on the writer Maythil Radhakrishnan was widely recognised and made his first feature film ‘Ithra maathram’ (2012) which has received FIPRESCI award. As a professor in philosophy, his interest in film studies and film making naturally got reflected in designing interdisciplinary courses in film and philosophy in University of Calicut, which was a pioneering effort in the Indian academic domain.
