25th IFFK may go online

Following the footsteps of the trend of conducting film festivals as an online event across the world due to Covid-19 pandemic, Kerala Government also may hold much-anticipated 25th edition of the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) as an online event.

Indicating the plan, Minister for Cultural Affairs A.K. Balan on Thursday said that the government would consider holding IFFK as an online film festival in February 2021, instead of a conventional theatre-based event. But as it is a silver jubilee edition of the festival, this year’s film festival will not drop from the calendar.

Traditionally, the event is held every year in December. But this year, the government plans that the event can be held by January or February, 2021. An online version of IFFK would be considered if a regular event was impossible even by then, he said in a statement.

The 24th IFFK was held from December 6 to December 13 in 2019. Meanwhile, the government had begun the preparation for the State Film Awards. Entries for this year’s State Television Awards also had already been accepted, the Minister said.
